Previous Meetings
October’s Meeting
On Wednesday we had a great talk by Taylor Hood on the Beekeepers of the West of Scotland who sculptured Beekeeping in Scotland.
Taylor also talked about the Stewarton Hive, one of the first hives to have separate boxes for Brood and honey.
A great talk, thanks Taylor

September’s Meeting
Our very own Mhairi Neill gave us a talk on Records and Record keeping. So there is no excuse now for poor record keeping.
–
May’s Meeting
We had Julian Stanley giving us a talk on:-
Trophallaxis:- Where honey bees share food.
Honey bee colonies, like humans and other animals, including birds and bats, rely on trophallaxis and the associated exchange of information for social cohesion and survival.
April’s Meeting
Carriona Morrison gave us a very interesting talk on Flowers and Pollination. It included the biology of flowers and the roll of pollinators. As well as information on bee friendly plants and flowers by season.
March’s Meeting
We had a great meeting where Chris Knight explained his method of Queen Rearing. Enjoyed by everyone.
February’s Meeting
This month we had a very interesting talk given by our very own Mhairi McNeill on the 3 castes of the honey bee.
–
January’s Meeting
This month we held our AGM.
–
December’s Meeting..
This month we revived our honey show, albeit is a small way.
We had a :-
Honey judging category.
Wax Candle judging.
Gingerbread and Shortbread taste off.
All great fun and I am sure we will all be gearing up for next years show.
November’s Talk..
This month we were given a great talk and slide show by Austen Brown on the trip he organised to Sweden last summer to visit local bee-keepers.
I think all talk attendees will be booking their summer holidays in Sweden next year. Sweden just looked a tremendous place to visit.
October’s Talk..
This month we were given a hugely entertaining talk by John Durkacz of the Scottish Native Bee Society. He told us about the work done by the society and why he’s such an advocate of the native honey bee of Scotland, probably more affectionately referred to as the black bee.
