She will be telling us what it is……. how it affects our bees and way of controlling this nasty mite.

Tonight, from the bright lights of Holywood, Dumfries; our very own Lorraine Johnston will be discussing her exciting first year as Scotland’s Bee Health Officer

Lorraine will discuss the importance and relevance of Bee Base, beekeeping regulation, the bee inspectorate, the bee health partnership, the 10 year Honeybee Health Strategy and it’s implementation plan.

Joining us online on Wednesday the 8th February at 7.30pm is world renown expert, Dr Susan Cobey. Dr Cobey shall be enlightening us on all issues relating to bee breeding, the method of artificial insemination and more.

​​​​Dr Cobey currently works at the Department of Entomology, Washington State University. Her focus is stock improvement and the selection and breeding of honey bees. Her current project is honey bee germplasm importation from native European honey bee subspecies to diversify the U.S. honey bee gene pool.

Club Apairy

Our club apiary has been coming along after some amazing work by Jim and Mary McBeath during lockdown. Jim also received a Local Association Medal from The Scottish Beekeepers Association for all his hard work and for setting up our “Auld Alliance” with Les Amis des Abeilles du Val d’Oise.
